What a Group – by Karen Fainges

I was just looking through some blog posts on another site and the thing that struck me most were the groups. I swear, somewhere out there on the interweb (a Top Gear term), there is a one eyed chicken lover’s club. I leave it up to your imagination if it is the chickens or the lovers with only one eye.

So what does that mean for writers? Basically it means that somewhere out there, there will be a group of people that love your style of writing … and they don’t necessarily answer to Mum. People argue if vampires that do not burn in sunlight are still vampires so now there are different subgenres, gothic, horror, sci-fi/fantasy the list goes on.

So somewhere out there is a home for your characters.

So how do you find it? Well, there our good friend Google comes into play. Type in your main idea and see if someone out there has a fan group for it.

And it’s true, there is nothing new under the sun. I agree, cliches are inevitable. Still there is a lot of old stuff you can paint purple and re-release as new. The car industry does it all the time :).

  1. That is so true! I am trying my hand at some pseudo-fiction for a second time (rehashing an old story) and it isn’t very good, but those who like it, like it. So you just never know! It seems there is an audience for everything — as reality TV knows well.
